It wouldn’t be a Madonna appearance if there wasn’t one or two stunts involved throughout the night. Her appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon comes as she is promoting her new documentary, titled Madame X, and she definitely made the most of her time in the spotlight. Madonna has never been one to shy away from attention, and things really haven’t changed in her head, at least since the 80s.

She began the interview tamely, promoting Madame X, and orating about why creative expression is important to her and her career, and why she never seeks to stay in a safe spot for too long.

“Artists are here to disturb the peace,” Madonna said, quoting autthor James Baldwin. “And so, I hope that I have disturbed not only your peace this afternoon but people’s peace while they watch the show, but I mean that in the best way.”

And oh boy, did she ever disturb the peace after that. Fallon went on to say “Oh yeah, you get in good trouble,” which seemingly set something off in Madonna’s brain because after this interaction is when the chaos of the interview set off.

Madonna proceeded to jump out of her chair and push Fallon’s belongings aside on his desk, laying sensually across and making provocative faces at the camera while doing so. Fallon seemingly panicked at the whole situation, and tried to cover her up with his suit jacket while yelling “Stop!”

She returned to her seat, but not before flashing her behind to the camera, just after saying “No one’s going to see anything, my God!”

The interview tapered off in a frazzled awkwardness, with Madonna breaking the silence by saying “Life is not just about interviewing kiddies. Don’t you want to talk to an adult? Let’s have an adult conversation.”

To which Fallon simply responded, “Are you an adult?” A simple question that spoke volumes about the events that preceded it.
