After a few seasons on the bench, scarves as hair accoutrements are officially back in fashion. Celebrities have been heralding the trend’s return by donning a slew of luxury headscarves, most notably Bella Hadid and sister, Gigi. The latest It girl to adopt luxury headscarves into her everyday outfit repertoire? None other than Kaia Gerber.

The model posted a snap of herself wearing a headscarf in a bandana style to her Instagram. Gerber has made no secret of her appreciation for cotton bandanas, which she’s worn for a number of seasons. But this look is decidedly more sophisticated, with the 18-year-old donning what looks to be Saint Laurent’s Vintage Cashmere-Print Bandana.

She pared back the retro look with a summery ensemble of a cropped baby tank and loose-fitting pants. Gerber pulled her newly-long hair back off her face, allowing the headscarf to keep it in place as she engaged in what appears to be a relaxed outdoor art session. Minimal jewellery and bare feet render Gerber a 70s aesthetic, and we’re going to need to imitate it immediately.

She’s not the only one getting in on the printed scarf action, though. Fashion’s current darling, Dua Lipa, wore her Louis Vuitton headscarf while rocking her peroxide blonde locks, which speaks to the versatility of the humble headscarf.

Unlike Gerber, Lipa left her fringe and the front sections of her hair out for a more casual take on the look. It’s cool, uncontrived and exactly the vibe we’re feeling throughout long weeks spent in lockdown without access to a hairdresser, or – for those of us lucky enough – during a particularly stylish sojourn to the sun and sand.
