Lori Harvey is living the modernized version of the American dream. She’s the daughter of comedian veteran Steve Harvey, she’s walked runways for Dolce & Gabbana and of course, she’s dating People’s Sexiest Man Alive, Michael B. Jordan. Aside from her group of socialite friends and her upcoming skincare brand, it is what she leverages over most celebrities that magnetizes us all: a private life.
Pressed against an era of hyper connectivity, it’s quite the gift for any celeb to be able to supersede the invasive demands of the limelight but Harvey’s seeming reticence is the captivating power that she wields. In her rare interview with Bustle (we’ve last heard her speak during her Vogue beauty tutorial), she spoke of taking the high road to protect her privacy in spite of her name’s propensity to trend on social media. Although Twitter users often jokingly remark on the model’s enviable ability to seemingly casually date Hollywood’s elite, Harvey feels her supporters relate to her keeping her cool even in the murkiest of waters. “I think they get from me that I try to just not let any type of negativity or rumors or anything like that make me stoop down to that level and go back and forth with it or whatever. Just maintain my position of I know who I am, I know what’s going on,” she said.
Although she’s meticulous with her choice of words, the mass audience that trail the endless assumptions of Harvey’s life could easily presume that the 24-year-old was referencing her brief yet high-profile relationship with rapper Future which recently re-entered blog headlines with quite the spectacle. Last month, the “Mask Off” rapper is thought to have thrown a subliminal dis his ex-partner, Harvey. suggesting he was the one who ended off things in August. In his “Maybach” collaboration with 42 Dugg, he spits, “Tell Steve Harvey I don’t want her / One thing I never seen was a b*tch leave.” The fiery hook that hurled even more barbs at Harvey, her stepfather and her celebrity boo in the recently leaked version as he raps, “Must’ve forgot to tell her daddy she begged me not to leave.” He adds: “Put baguettes on ya ankles damn near up to ya knees / She didn’t have a choice, but to go f*ck a lame after me.” In a seeming response, Harvey said, “I just try to stay up here and take the high road in every situation.”
