Have you grieved a character you don’t even know? Well, most of us are mourning a loss we never knew after finding out that our revolutionary icon, Lil Nas X, could’ve possibly starred opposite our evermore starlet Zendaya in the teenage hit drama Euphoria.

In his cover profile with Variety, the “Old Town Road” rapper delivered the sobering news, emphasizing that he delayed his acting debut for his forthcoming self-titled opus. “I was actually going to do Euphoria, but I didn’t want to take time away from finishing my album,” he revealed. Luckily, the 22-year-old is looking forward to the silver screen in the near future. He continued, “I definitely want to get into acting, but I feel I have to give it my all, and I want to focus on music for right now. I want my first movie to be amazing.” All we have now are wistful dreams of the award-winning industry rebel navigating through the dynamics of sex, drugs, identity, and trauma when we watch the forthcoming season of the show.

While the release date of self-titled project has yet to be revealed, X has been revolutionizing hip hop as queer icon, disrupting the largely conservative narratives that exile sexual and queer liberation in the genre. And fortunately for us, we’ve had a glimpse of his acclaimed acting skills in his star-studded visuals. In his video for his smash hit “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” X embodied a dimension-traveling, pole-gyrating lover who finds himself sliding down to a hellscape to give the devil a seductive lap dance. Most recently, in his “Industry Baby” video (which featured the magnetizing Jack Harlow), the nonconformist popstar performed in carceral-inspired scenes as himself, a judge, the lawyers for both the defense and prosecution, and as a member of the jury.
