Now, Larry David isn’t a name we usually cover when it comes to the fashion sphere. He’s known to notoriously hate the world of style. But ironically enough, this disdain for the industry has inadvertently made him into a fashion icon. During New York Fashion Week this past September, an iconic photo of David sprung on the internet, where he was seen covering his ears at a show. Well, he’s finally explaining the moment.

Put simply, David said that the event “was very noisy.” Some speculated that he was there to film a new episode for Curb Your Enthusiasm, a show which he created, but apparently, that wasn’t the case, as revealed in a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel.

“Let me explain how I wound up there,” David said. “My friend’s fiancée is a great fashion designer, her name is STAUD (Sarah Staudinger), she’s a wonderful gal. He said to me that my presence would be helpful. I said, ‘My presence has never been helpful anywhere. Wherever I am, it’s wrong. Everything is better if I’m not there. Believe me’. So I showed up. But, you know, me and a fashion show, it’s a little out of place. It was very loud music and that’s why I was covering my ears.”

This isn’t his first run in with fashion controversy. When he was set to appear on the cover of GQ,  he refused to be styled for the shoot. “They wanted me to wear their clothes, I said it was ridiculous I’m not gonna do that. I said I’ll wear my own clothes,” David told Conan.
