Horrifying footage has surfaced on social media today after officials declared Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival in Houston on Friday night, a “mass casualty incident”. Eight people aged between 14 and 27 were killed on Friday while countless others were hospitalized when a crowd surge of 50,000 caused concert goers to either be trampled or collapse.

Kylie Jenner has spoken out over the weekend’s event on Instagram stories to share her condolences with the victim’s families as well as defend Scott’s knowledge of the fatalities.

“Travis and I are broken and devastated. My thoughts and prayers are with all who lost their lives, were injured or affected in anyway by yesterday’s events,” Jenner wrote in a statement. “And also for Travis who I know cares deeply for his fans and the Houston community.”

“I want to make it clear we weren’t aware of any fatalities until the news came out after the show and in no world would have continued filming or performing. I am sending my deepest condolences to all the families during this difficult time and will be praying for the healing of everyone who has been impacted.”

In one viral social media post, the crowd could be heard chanting “stop the show”. In another, Scott was seen dancing from a platform while just below him, police were performing CPR on an attendee.

Scott also took to social media at the weekend to respond to the tragedy. “I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival,” the rapper wrote on social media. “Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.”

“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need,” he added.

According to Fox News, Scott and his guest artist, Drake, are officially being sued over the incident. Texas attorney Thomas J. Henry filed a lawsuit Sunday against the pair on behalf of 23-year-old concert attendee, Kristian Paredes. Paredes is reportedly seeking more than $1 million USD in damages after both rappers allegedly “incited the crowd” and left him injured.

We expect it will be one of many. Stay tuned for further developments.
