While we patiently wait for season five of The CrownKristen Stewart’s portrayal of Princes Diana is due to hit theaters in the coming months. After receiving a glimpse of the actress earlier this year, Neon, the studio behind the film has released the first film poster and teaser trailer. The chilling promo sees Stewart dressed in a billowing white gown, seemingly crying into the skirt.

Directed by Pablo Larrain, the film follows Christmas weekend in 1991 where Princess Diana grapples with ending her marriage to Prince Charles.

“Spencer is a dive inside an emotional imagining of who Diana was at a pivotal turning point in her life,” Stewart told Variety. “It is a physical assertion of the sum of her parts, which starts with her given name: Spencer. It is a harrowing effort for her to return to herself, as Diana strives to hold onto what the name Spencer means to her.”

Jack Farthing will front Prince Charles while the cast also stars Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water) and Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible – Fallout).

Variety reports that footage not available to the public was revealed at the film conference which features “fabulous suits, elaborate scenery, and a tense conversation between the Prince and Princess of Wales.”

In late-November, Stewart reflected on her early memories of the Princess on Jimmy Kimmel Live

“I didn’t grow up with her maybe in the same way, I was really young when she passed away,” Stewart said. “I was really young, [I] didn’t know what was going on,” she said. “It’s hard not to feel protective of her. She was so young.”

Spencer will premiere at the Venice Film Festival which is slated to run from September 1 through to September 11. The film will be released globally from November 5. Stay tuned for the full trailer.
