If 2020 couldn’t throw us yet another curveball, fashion’s latest appointment has done just that. Following the history-making news earlier in the year that Raf Simons was joining Prada’s Miuccia Prada to co-design, now we have another major design coup: Kim Jones is the new Artistic Director of Fendi.

Joining third-generation Fendi matriarch Silvia Venturini Fendi, who will continue to create the accessories and menswear collections, Jones will oversee the haute couture, ready-to-wear and fur collections for women.

Perhaps most interestingly, however, is that he will retain his role at Dior; continuing his post as Artistic Director of Dior Men, bestriding both luxury LVMH houses (talk about a busy schedule).

“I would like to profoundly thank Monsieur Arnault, Pietro Beccari, Serge Brunschwig and Silvia Venturini Fendi for this incredible opportunity,” Jones said in an official statement. “Working across two such prestigious houses is a true honor as a designer and to be able to join the house of Fendi as well as continuing my work at Dior Men’s is a huge privilege.”

But according to LVMH Chairman, Bernard Arnault, and Serge Brunschwig, Fendi’s Chairman and CEO, the privilege is all theirs. “I am thrilled to welcome Kim Jones at Fendi. Kim is one of the most talented and relevant designers of today,” Brunschwig enthused. “With Silvia Venturini Fendi, who has virtuously carried on Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld legacy, Kim will bring his contemporary one of a kind point of view into the world of Fendi.”

While Mrs. Fendi is equally thrilled with her new colleague. “My warmest welcome to Kim, to whom I am bound by deep respect and friendship. I am looking forward to take the Fendi universe to the next level with him.”

Kim Jones will present his first Fendi ready-to-wear collection for Fall/Winter 2021-22 season during Milan Fashion Week in February.
