Not your mother’s typical museum merchandise, Pyer Moss founder and creative director Kerby Jean-Raymond has collaborated with the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a limited-edition capsule crewneck sweatshirt, available today via @themetstore on Instagram. Following the late, great Virgil Abloh, Jean-Raymond is the most recent designer to be tapped for the designer collaboration series in tribute to The Costume Institute’s In America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibition.

Emblazoned with the names of Pyer Moss and the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the front, numbers are listed out on the back, representing the most popularly used bullet calibers. Offered in both red and black, the sweatshirt acts as a conduit to the conversation of gun violence, particularly in American society as the statistics on deaths caused by gun violence continue to exponentially rise.

With the Met’s first chapter of In America: A Lexicon of Fashion having been on view since 2021, its sister installment In America: An Anthology of Fashion will open its doors on May 5th.

Harking back to his 2021 Met Gala red suit, fully equipped with a faux-bullet proof vest, Jean-Raymond’s knack for implementing relevant social commentary through his work truly sets him apart. According the Met, Pyer Moss, “has notably challenged the status quo and prompted crucial dialogue since its establishment in 2013.”

The Kerby Jean-Raymond capsule will be available through the Met’s Instagram gift shop while supplies last.
