We love a revenge tale, especially when it’s Keke Palmer giving it back to her ex, Darius Jackson, with a very special collaboration post-Dressgate.
In the teaser for his new song ‘Boyfriend’, Usher revealed that he has cast Palmer to star in the video clip, which officially drops on August 17. The best bit, besides Palmer’s impeccable presence, has to be the sneak peek of lyrics that include “Somebody said that your boyfriend’s looking for me.”

The collab is a not-so-subtle wink at the online frenzy that Palmer’s then-partner Darius Jackson, stirred up in early July. If you’ve blocked it out of your mind, it all kicked off when Usher serenaded Palmer at his Las Vegas concert while the actress wore a figure-hugging black dress with a bodysuit underneath. Jackson provoke the world when he tweeted about it, shaming the mother of his child for wearing a sheer dress.
“It’s the outfit tho … you a mom,” he wrote. Luckily, the Internet had her back, coming to her defence and showering her with support and roasting his ass. But instead of taking a moment to step back and reflect on his behavior, Jackson only doubled down on the very unchill take.
“We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is,” he followed up.
While Palmer didn’t publicly address the scandal, she hinted that she was single during a later performance. And, in a glorious business move, the 29-year-old released some tongue-in-cheek merch emblazoned with the slogan ‘I’m a Motha’.
It’s unclear if Jackson and Palmer are on decent terms after welcoming a child together in February, but her partnership with Usher proves she was never going to let his sexist comments get the better of her—and we love to see it.
