Keira Knightley has been keeping a low-profile lately. The last time she was out and about was for a screening of Charlotte in November and for the Chanel Couture Fall/Winter 2022-2023 show in July. But this week, she was back out in the limelight promoting her new movie, Boston Strangler, and she made her time out one to remember with a plethora of must-see looks.

For the New York City premiere of the Hulu Original (out March 17), the actress put a gothic-chic spin on the traditional corset in a look from Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood’s Spring-Summer 2023 collection. The dirndl-style tea-length dress was made of black taffeta with allover sequin embellishment and featured a corset lace-up bodice with long-sleeves and puff shoulders. She accessorized with peep-toe platforms and Sophie Bille Brahe jewelry and kept her brunette locks in loose waves with minimal makeup.

Typically, the British actress usually opts for Chanel on the carpet (she is the face of the Mademoiselle Coco Chanel fragrance, as well as the brand’s Rouge Coco lipstick and Coco Crush fine jewelry line after all). But perhaps she wanted to pay homage to the legendary British designer, who died in December at age 81? Westwood was known for her groundbreaking punk designs, and putting a sparkling, modern take on this corset look perfectly continues her legacy. (Her brand is now run by her husband and creative partner, Andreas Kronthaler.)

Knightley made the rounds while in N.Y.C. to promote the new true-crime thriller, in which she plays Loretta McLaughlin, one of the reporters (along with Jean Cole, played by Carrie Coon), who uncover the story of the Boston Strangler murders. Albert DeSalvo was identified as the “Boston Strangler” after he raped and strangled 13 women in the ’60s. As he claimed victims, the two reporters for the Boston Record-American put their lives at risk to discover the truth.

Knightley told People, “It’s really interesting that you have such a famous case, where largely in the public consciousness the women have been taken out. It felt really interesting to me to do a story that is about a serial killer, that is about violence against women, and show that through the eyes of women. Particularly with this case, because it was a case that was largely ignored by the male establishment and it took two female journalists to really raise it up and to show how important it was to try and get the community of Boston to understand what was going on and protect themselves.”

She kept her time out and about on the press tour ever-so-stylish, mixing high and low, leaning into sleek suiting and more. See all of her looks, below.
