The Inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice-President Kamala Harris came to a close in the most spectacular way on Wednesday evening with a goosebump-inducing performance by Katy Perry.

As the final performer after a huge, festival-worthy lineup, including Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Demi Lovato, The Foo Fighters, and Bon Jovi, Perry knew she had to pull out all the stops. The Grammy-nominated singer opted to perform her hit 2010 single ‘Firework’ in front of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool as President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Doug Emhoff looked on from the balconies above.

Dressed in a stunning white custom Thom Browne look, Perry looked perfectly patriotic, perfectly pop and perfectly herself.

Perry, usually one to wear bright colors, prints and eclectic designs, doesn’t wear white often, but when she does, she does it incredibly well. The singer, styled by Tatiana Waterford, wore a custom all-white cashmere coat, satin corset, arm-length gloves and floor-length skirt by the US designer, which showed her original sense of style, while still being perfectly elevated, elegant, and presidential.

Paying homage to her country and the iconic day, Perry’s outfit included blue and red buttons down the side and a long, floor-length cape draping behind her. For the occasion, she pulled her blonde hair back into a sleek bun, wore silver love heart earrings and a bright red lip. Perry’s fiancé Orlando Bloom also wore custom Thom Browne.

Following the performance, ‘Firework’ immediately entered the top 15 songs in the US – going up by over 600 spots – and Perry started trending on Twitter with many praising her performance as the best of the day. “You’re not officially the president of the United States until Katy Perry sings Firework to you,” one person noted, while another wrote, “The way Katy Perry will literally be in history books for this ICONIC performance.”
