Charles Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, has weighed in on all the viral theories surrounding Kate Middleton and her whereabouts. Since undergoing “planned abdominal surgery”, the Princess of Wales has been missing from the public eye since Christmas.

Following an odd photoshopping scandal, vague paparazzi shots, and even conspiracies surrounding Prince William‘s alleged connection to Rose Hanbury, the royal family has been called out for its lack of acknowledgement of the public’s concerns. Even though a statement from Buckhingham Palace noted that Middleton, 41, wouldn’t be back to her usual engagements until after Easter, her health and safety have been on everyone’s minds, including Spencer, it seems.

Talking to the BBC, the author recognised the dangers of media frenzies when it comes to royals.

“I do worry about what happened to the truth,” he told Laura Kuenssberg, adding that he sees a parallel between Middleton’s experience with that of his late sister’s.

When asked about the spiralling “online kind of conspiracy”, he compared it to the “press intrusion” that ultimately led to his sister’s untimely death.

As many will remember, at just 36 years old, Princess Diana died in car crash with her partner Dodi Fayed, in August of 1997 after being chased into a tunnel by photographers in Paris.

“I think it was more dangerous back in the day,” Spencer told the outlet. “I think if I look back to ’97 and Diana’s death, I think the circumstances of her death [were] so shocking that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it couldn’t, not because they had a moral judgment but because it was unacceptable.”

Though no one from the royal family has yet to comment on the Princess of Wales’ current wellbeing, both her husband, Prince William, and brother-in-law, Prince Harry have spoken out about the role of media in causing their mother’s accident.

“My mum was harassed throughout her life with my dad, but after they separated, the harassment went to new levels. I saw things, I experienced things. I learned things,” lamented Prince Harry in an episode of Netflix’s Harry & Meghan.

“The pain and suffering of women marrying into this institution. I remember thinking, ‘How can I ever find someone who is willing and capable to withstand all the baggage that comes with being with me?’”
