June 1, 2021: JW Anderson’s chain loafers undoubtedly make the list of most viral shoes of 2020 (next to the oh-so-infamous crocs, that is.) The embellished loafer offered comfort (ideal for work-from-home life) while also being incredibly chic—so much so that it’s nearly impossible to not photograph them for the ‘gram. Now that the world is returning to normal and people are looking for new ways to refresh their wardrobes, the British fashion label is back with new footwear to match the needs of a post-pandemic world.
Following the success of the loafer, the contemporary brand has unveiled its first sneaker. The design plays with proportions with an exaggerated sole and prominent stitching, modeled after a classic high-top style, with a deconstructed twist. With its distinct look and impressive array of colors for everyone, we can’t help but see the JW Anderson sneaker following in the loafers viral-like fame—and soon.
The new sneakers, which just launched this past May, have already enjoyed their share of artist collaborations. Creative director Jonathan Anderson offered ten global artists full artistic range to interpret the new sneakers in their own way. For example, Seoul-based artist Jae Suk Kim’s version of the sneaker features ceramic flowers painted in blue hues, whereas deconstructed sneaker artist Rudy Lim took JW Anderson’s deconstruction style literally, creating a pair of sneakers that look as if they are exploding in mid-air. Although the artist collaboration sneakers won’t be available for purchase, they are on display at select flagship locations.
