No one loves a DIY fashion moment more than Julia Fox, and she’s been sharing her newfound skills on Instagram, giving tips for transforming simple tank tops or a pair of jeans into her signature, skin-baring ensembles.
Ever since her whirlwind romance with Kanye West ended, the Uncut Gems actress has been pushing the sartorial envelope in Los Angeles in a lot of stop-and-stare ensembles.
Stepping out last night at Olivetta at designer LaQuan Smith and Net-a-Porter’s Oscars celebration party, Fox kept away from the scissors, wearing a LaQuan Smith Fall/Winter 2022 two-piece set, equipped with red sequined teeny, tiny bandeau top and coordinating sequin-trimmed long black skirt. Fox attended the fashion fête alongside Winnie Harlow, Law Roach, Tiffany Haddish, Ava Du Vernay, January Jones, and other A-list names.
But earlier in the day, she was spotted in a super tiny white tank and ultra short mini skirt, which happened to be one of her DIY creations. Fox donned the bottom half of the tank as a skirt, and shared a step-by-step video on how to make your own sexy set. “I really love seeing you guys try all this s*** at home!” she captioned her Instagram post.
She accessorized a lot of leather, wearing ruched black gloves, patent thigh-high boots and a top-handle bag.
In her video, she explained that she had some experience making the tank/skirt sets while living in a bayou in Louisiana. “There weren’t any clothing stores, so I would just go to the Wal-Mart and get these and wear them as little mini dresses and walk around the bayou, doing my thing. Super cheap, affordable, cute, chic, what more can you ask for?”
Last week, she provided fans with another gem of a tutorial, demonstrating how to turn a pair of high-waisted jeans into low-rise denim, with a matching top. “It makes for a really cute set and it’s easy and honestly now that latex is kinda played out, denim, you’re all I have left,” she said in the clip shared on Instagram.
Cutting through the pants’ zipper and crazy gluing it back together, the star sliced off the jean’s waistband, turned it upside down, and transformed it as one of her beloved bandeaus. “They’re so much cuter like this,” she proclaims.
She said she shared the denim how-to since her previous tutorial (how to get her signature “Fox eye” beauty look) was “so successful.”
When asked about her preferred makeup look on popular podcast Call Her Daddy, Fox said, “People hated it, I loved it. I just feel like I’m so over seeing the perfect contouring, and the perfect lashes. It’s like, I just want to be real.”
Following her brow line and blackening almost her entire lid, Fox documented doing her own makeup ahead of the Independent Spirit Awards in early March.
