Last night’s American Music Awards brought with it a handful of iconic fashion moments, Cardi B in custom Schiaparelli comes to mind. But what caught us off guard came in the form of Jojo Siwa’s red carpet look, reportedly the first time she’s ever worn heels at such an event. The Dancing With the Stars alum has had quite the landmark year, marking a transition out of childhood star into a trailblazer of fashion and LGBTQ+ visibility, and we’re here for every moment.

Siwa wore a black gown to the AMA red carpet, the first time she’s opted for something out of her realm of Lisa Frank couture since her rise to fame as a Dance Moms standout. The dress featured a solid black bodice that flourished into alternating sheer and ruffled black fabric that hit the floor. The crown jewel of this outfit was a pair of classic Louboutin pumps that gave the look a maturity that seems like quite the transitional moment for Siwa.

Watching Siwa’s growth and transformation has been quite the event of the past couple years. She’s become a beacon of representation for LGBTQ+ youth everywhere, and her power and radiance is contagious, she brings a layer of joy and positivity wherever she goes.

“Every day, I feel different. Every day, my happiness is larger. And every day, my confidence is larger. And every day, a thrill is bigger,” Siwa said. “All in all, she can’t complain: “Life is just so epic right now that I’m just seat belted in and along for the ride. I’m in the driver’s seat, but I’m going 150 miles per hour. Like, Jesus take the wheel.”

Having someone so young and so vocal about confidence and self-power is not to be understated, especially for young women, particularly young queer women, who feel they may not have proper representation in media. And now, we can add bonafide style icon to Siwa’s ever-growing list of achievements and iconic moments
