The 2022 MTV VMAs brought out music’s biggest names, but there was one particular star that no one was expecting to see on Sunday night — and they arrived in an even more unexpected way. Johnny Depp hovered above the audience at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey as a “Moon person,” giving a nod to the statuette winners receive at the Video Music Awards.

Depp appeared virtually and his face was featured on a screen on the astronaut’s helmet while his voice rang throughout the auditorium joking, “Hey, you know what, I needed the work.”

The 59-year-old Pirates of the Caribbean star continued, “I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any ole’ thing you need. Anything. You name it. So…Oh! I’m also a dentist.”

Making three brief, surprising cameos in the space suit, Depp returned from a commercial break declaring, “Hey VMAs, let’s get back to the f***ing music, shall we?”

The appearance comes almost three months after the jury deliberation of Depp’s lengthy defamation trial with ex-wife Amber Heard.

Depp, was awarded a cumulative $15 million in damages while Heard was granted $2 million, resulting in a legal win for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star.

Depp claimed he missed out on several different contracts after Heard wrote an op-ed in 2018 for The Washington Post, describing herself as a survivor of domestic violence. While the Aquaman actress never explicitly referred to her ex-husband by name, Depp claimed $50 million in damages in 2019, but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
