With this year marking Jodie Turner-Smith’s Met Gala debut, the actress’ red carpet ensemble did anything but disappoint. Attending arm-in-arm with her husband Joshua Jackson, the pair came adorned in Gucci.
“The inspiration for the dress was very ’30s, ‘40s era musicals, à la Busby Berkeley,” said Turner-Smith while speaking with Vogue’s livestream from the carpet.
Styled by Wayman and Micah, Turner-Smith sported a custom Gucci crystal chain bra with a swinging fringe skirt, plus a chiffon open skirt with train. With a touch of golden gilded eyebrows and classic finger waves, Turner-Smith was drenched in Gucci High Jewelry baubles from earrings, bangles, and rings, of white gold, rich rubies, and shimmering diamonds.
Jackson looked dapper in his tux to Turner-Smith’s flapper aesthetic, with a custom Gucci mohair tailcoat, a wingtip collared dress shirt, and a double-breasted vest, teamed up with a white satin bowtie and leather lace-up shoes.
“Obviously, [I’m] the luckiest man in the room,” said Jackson as he swooned over his wife during their livestream interview. “Look at this beautiful woman. You are so spectacular. Looking so good at your first red carpet, here at the Met!”
Laughing and expressing her anxiety, Turner-Smith joked that she was excited to see what came after walking the red carpet. “For those of us who have never been, all we know is that bit there,” she joked, pointing to the carpet. “I’m looking forward to seeing what the rest of it’s all about.”
Celebrating the opening of the second installment to last year’s exhibition In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, with In America: An Anthology of Fashion, the fashionable couple put their own twist on the night’s theme, “Gilded Glamour.”
