On Dec. 1, President Joe Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden welcomed French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, to the first White House state dinner during the Biden administration. For such a glitzy event, the Jill reached for a designer that’s been beloved by many First Ladies that came before her.
The First Lady glistened in a custom hand-beaded navy-blue off-the-shoulder crepe floral Oscar de la Renta gown for the occasion. While Jill has chosen the American fashion house time and time again, Oscar de la Renta has a long history of dressing a number of First Ladies including Jackie Kennedy, to Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama. Over the years, the brand has become a sort of sartorial tradition within the White House.
On Thursday, there were over 300 guests in attendance including some of Hollywood’s finest. Jennifer Garner and her daughter whom she shares with ex Ben Affleck were on-hand, as well as Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Ariana DeBose, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Baz Luhrumann, Gabriela Hearst, Christian Louboutin, and more. Of course, they all dressed to the nines for the occasion. See all the looks, below.
