One of Hollywood’s most low-key, cute couples, Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis, reportedly quietly ended their relationship earlier this year after nine years together and nearly seven years engaged.
Yesterday, a source confirmed the split to People, saying that the pair went their separate ways at the beginning of the year, but that there’s no bad blood between them. “It’s been amicable and they’ve transitioned into a great co-parenting routine,” they said. “The children are the priority and the heart of the family’s relationship.”
“There was absolutely no drama or scandal, they just didn’t work as a couple anymore,” a different source told Entertainment Tonight. “If you’re looking for a juicy story, there just isn’t one.” The source went on: “Of course their kids are their number one priority and at the forefront of any decision they make…They adore each other and have nothing but the utmost respect for one another. They will continue to be each other’s biggest supporters, especially when it comes to parenting their children and their careers. They see each other all the time still.”
Wilde and Sudeikis, who started dating in 2011, share a six-year-old son, Otis Alexander, and a four-year-old daughter, Daisy Josephine.
In 2013, Wilde told Allure that she thought Sudeikis “was so charming” when they first met at a Saturday Night Live party, the actor “didn’t even get my number.”
“Over the next six months we kept running into each other,” she recalled. “[One night], my best guy friend walked up to him and said, ‘This is Olivia’s number. Use it.’ That was the beginning.”
Following reports of the split, Wilde took to Instagram to post a photo of her children, writing across the photo, “My everythings.” She later posted a famous quote by Theodore Roosevelt which reads, “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
Last year, Wilde made her directorial debut with the film Booksmart, for which she cast Sudeikis as the high school principal. “His entire relationship with me has been one long audition for Booksmart, and he nailed it,” Wilde told ET in an interview at the time of the film’s release. She’s currently working on Don’t Worry Darling, a movie starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.
