June 15, 2021: A trend that Millenials and (early) Gen Zers share is a nostalgic memory of Isabel Marant’s celeb-loved wedge sneaker, formally known as the Beckett shoe. Notably, Beyoncé wore a pair in the 2011 music video for her single “Love on Top,” and they’ve been a favorite of celebrities and fashion girls alike ever since, also worn by Anne Hathaway, Ashley Tisdale, and Alessandra Ambrosio, among other A-listers.
Whether you loved them or loathed them, the Beckett sneaker was one of the hottest footwear options of the decade in the early 2010s. Now, they’re back but reimagined for 2021 in honor of their 10th anniversary. The label has introduced a contemporary twist on the celeb-loved shoe, dubbed the Balskee, and it’s available in five signature colorways, including neutrals like black and white and bolds like green, yellow, and red.
The Balskee has a few new iterations to its predecessor. The updated version stands on a ten-centimeter heel with a chunky sole to optimize comfort (much needed in a post-pandemic world) and extra-special details like colored and textured overstitched leather, an oversized tongue, and a row of Velcro fasteners. Supermodel Adut Akech is the face of the Balskee campaign. She’s photographed casually sporting the futuristic-looking wedge sneakers paired with a belted black puffer jacket.
Can’t wait to get your hands on them? The Balskee sneakers are available now in black and white, but they’ll also be available in color-saturated hues this month on Isabel Marant’s website and in-stores. Check them out ahead.
