Wood, stone, endless water views and a fireplace built from local rock. Robert Herjavec has spent years on television judging other people’s dreams. His own has a very specific address: a peninsula on a lake in Muskoka, Ontario, where he and his wife, Kym Johnson, have created a retreat that feels a world away from Los Angeles.
The couple recently opened the doors to it in videos shared by the real estate platform Homeworthy, and the result is less flashy mansion, more timeless lake house.
Why Muskoka Is Called the Hamptons of Canada
About two hours north of Toronto, Muskoka is known for its clear lakes, classic wooden boathouses and relaxed summer culture. Wealthy Canadians have escaped there for generations, and it has drawn its share of Hollywood names too.
“Muskoka is heaven on earth for many people,” Herjavec told Homeworthy, calling it “the Hamptons of Canada.”
A House Designed to Feel Like Muskoka
Herjavec did not want the home to follow a trend or a particular design style. He wanted it to feel distinctly Muskoka, which he describes as timeless and unfussy.
That translates into natural wood and stone throughout and wide views of the water from nearly every room. The centerpiece is the living room fireplace, handmade from Muskoka rock and, as Homeworthy notes, built tall rather than deep, so it rises like a natural rock face through the room.
Built for Guests, Pizza Nights and the Lake
The property is made for company. Homeworthy describes several homes on the land for visiting friends and family, a pizza oven and outdoor barbecues, and easy access to the water for swimming and boating.
It is the kind of place where days revolve around the lake and evenings around food, which fits a couple with two young children. Herjavec and Johnson share twins, Haven Mae and Hudson Robert, who are 8.
Two Very Different Worlds Under One Roof
The couple met in 2015 on Dancing with the Stars, where Johnson, a professional dancer and two-time champion, was paired with Herjavec. They married in 2016. Their fan bases could hardly be more different, with Shark Tank viewers on one side and ballroom lovers on the other, and both seem equally curious about this lake house.
Johnson, who was born and raised in Australia, said her first visit to Muskoka felt like stepping into The Parent Trap, the film famous for its summer-camp lake scenes.
A Full-Circle Moment
For Herjavec, the house carries extra meaning. Born in the former Yugoslavia, he moved to Canada with his family as a child and grew up in a one-room apartment before his parents could buy their first home. Owning a place in Muskoka, Homeworthy notes, is a full-circle moment.
That may be why the house feels so grounded. There is no showroom gloss, just wood, stone, water and a rock fireplace at its heart. Inside Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson’s lakeside retreat, the luxury is the setting itself, and the time they get to spend there together.
