Black brick, white shingles and a staircase straight down to the Pacific. Some people collect art. Some collect cars. For decades, one of Hollywood’s most beloved actresses collected houses, bought them, reimagined them and moved on to the next one. Her last project is now for sale on a bluff above the ocean in South Laguna Beach.
Diane Keaton bought the house on Table Rock Drive in January 2021 for $6.6 million, according to real estate records cited by Sunset. She redesigned it and sold it the following year for $7.9 million. The home, built around 1976, is now back on the market for $10.3 million, and its listing agent describes it as Keaton’s final home renovation.
A House Built Around Her Signature Look
Anyone who has followed Keaton’s homes will recognize the palette instantly. The nearly 2,700-square-foot house keeps her signature black-and-white scheme: white shaker siding, a flat roof with a black-shingle extension, exposed black brick walls, whitewashed wood-paneled ceilings and wide-plank oak floors, as Country & Town House describes it.
The layout is multilevel and built for the view. There is an open living area with a brick fireplace and glass doors to oceanfront decks, a gray-and-white kitchen with a marble island, a lower level with more living space and a bar, and an upstairs primary suite with its own fireplace and a deck facing the Pacific. A wooden staircase at the back leads directly down to the beach. According to Sunset, there are ocean views from virtually every window, including the one above the kitchen sink.
Why the Current Owners Kept Her Design
The buyers who purchased the house from Keaton, an Arizona couple who run an aircraft parts business, chose to keep much of what she created. “This was Diane Keaton’s last home renovation and still includes all of her lighting and personal touches,” listing agent Brooke Wainwright told Country & Town House.
That decision is unusual. Most buyers at this level renovate immediately to make a house their own. Here, the design itself became part of the value, which helps explain how a home bought for $6.6 million in 2021 is now asking $10.3 million five years later.
Laguna Beach Was Her Favorite Playground
Keaton’s history in the town runs deep. “She loved doing her flips in Laguna,” Wainwright said. In 2004, she bought a 1928 Mediterranean-style home on Cliff Drive for $7.5 million and sold it in 2006 for $12.75 million, according to Zillow records cited by Sunset. Earlier in the 2000s, she worked on a similar white-shingle house with a black roof on Chiquita Street.
Her projects stretched far beyond the coast, from a Spanish Colonial Revival home in Beverly Hills to a Lloyd Wright house in Bel Air and her Sullivan Canyon home in Los Angeles, which she documented in her 2017 book, The House That Pinterest Built. Each one followed the same instinct: strong contrasts, natural materials and rooms that felt lived in rather than staged.
What This Listing Tells Us
Keaton, who died in October 2025, spent much of her life proving that design could be personal without being precious. This house is a clear example. It is not a mansion, and it does not try to be one. It is a modest footprint on a spectacular site, finished with the kind of choices that make people stop scrolling.
In 2021, she paid $6.6 million for a 1970s house above Table Rock Beach. Today, with her lighting and her black-and-white palette still in place, it is asking $10.3 million, and the design is a big part of why.
