It’s time to take out the tissues and say goodbye to HBO Max’s beloved series Insecure, as the season finale will air on Sunday, December 26.

The popular show, which premiered in 2016, focuses on Issa Dee (played by Issa Rae) and her life as she tries to navigate the dating scene, her friendship with bestie Molly (Yvonne Orji) and her career.

While some fans might be on team Lawrence (played by Jay Ellis) — Issa and Lawrence have been on and off for the past five seasons — others are holding out hope that Nathan (Kendrick Sampson) is the one for her.

Rae even admitted that she changed the final episode to what she wanted.

“It just didn’t feel right,” the HBO star noted. “I think it was a good finale on its own. However, I just didn’t feel like it aligned with the story that we have been telling for five seasons, much less even this season. It felt like the ideal version. I just wanted to make an ending that felt more realistic and true to the characters.”

Though it may be tough to say goodbye, Rae is excited for fans to see the outcome. “I had been talking a lot of s**t all season, like people asking me, ‘Is it going to be bittersweet?’ And I was like, ‘More sweet than bitter!’” she said. “And then literally filming myself crying on the way to set like, ‘What is wrong with me?’ It caught me. But I’m just happy. I’m so grateful I got to work with these amazing people, and I’m in celebration mode.”

She added, “We always talked about this journey, from being insecure to being comfortable in your insecurities [and] securely insecure.”

The cherry on top of it all is that instead of the typical 30-minute episode, it will be 41 minutes — something that doesn’t always happen with the network.

“We can’t, we literally can’t,” she said when asked if she can make the show longer. “Sometimes we would submit episodes for HBO’s approval that are like 33 minutes, and they’ll be like, ‘Get it down to 28 [minutes] and 30 seconds.’ That’s it, so it’s out of our hands.”
