In September last year, Maria Grazia Chiuri opened her Spring/Summer 2023 show with a hooped petticoat and bralette in raffia lace, a prelude to the extraordinary silhouettes that would follow. Her muse was 16th century Italian noblewoman-come-French Queen Catherine de Medici—and her daily wardrobe moments: crinolines, gloves, satin, yards of lace and baroque curved heels with buckles to the knees.

Ms. Chiuri always celebrates powerful female figures—and tonight, at the Tuileries Gardens in Paris, we’re waiting with bated breath to see her next heroine.

“My point of departure is the female body, and I think about how the body and fashion come together to allow me to express ideas and re-shape identities,” Ms. Chiuri wrote in an essay for GRAZIA. “My work is rooted in passion, study and a desire to be on the frontline, with my own interpretation and also my own personal way of living the extraordinary adventure of being a woman.”

But if you’re after a clue, Dior released the following teaser courtesy of anthropologist Michela Zucca, author of Donne Deliquenti, and who speaks about the historical appreciation and condemnation of wise and rebellious women.
