And the category is: Second Season. HBO Max’ hit competition series, Legendary, is back for its second season and as resident judge, mega-visual architect Law Roach says: “[It] did what needed to be done.” Legendary is a competition series centered around Ballroom, a Black and brown cultural scene and community in which marginalized BIPOC LGBTQ+ people band together forming houses (FX’s Pose spotlights New York’s underground ball culture). The houses then compete in various categories for trophies and/or cash prizes. The show also features a panel of four judges that score each house and its members on a scale of 1 through 10, resulting in either 10s across the board (which is like an “A+”) or a chop (which is unfortunately an “F”). Ballroom icon Leiomy Maldonado, Grammy award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion, visual architect Law Roach, and The Good Place‘s Jameela Jamil, serve as the four core judges.

The ten houses — often named after actual fashion houses — go head to head, competing for a cash prize of $100,000 and bragging rights as the ultimate superior house. With exciting spins and dips, stellar costumes (not to mention some major looks courtesy of the judges), some competitive shade, celebrity guest judges — Normani, Nicco Annan, and Tiffany Haddish to name just a few — and hilarious commentary, this is a gem of a show.
