Halle Berry
Halle Berry attends the 93rd Annual Academy Awards at Union Station on April 25, 2021 in Los Angeles, California.

The stars love to tease us regular people with behind-the-scenes content ahead of major awards shows like the 93rd annual Academy Awards, happening this evening, Sunday, April 25. Among them is Halle Berry, who, leading up to the ceremony, remained curiously quiet on social media, er, besides posting a photo resembling the floor of a hair salon: with hair scattered all over the floor. Keeping her seven million Instagram followers on their toes, the actress offered no explanation, that is, until she arrived on the award’s show’s red carpet with a drastic new hairstyle that the internet can’t get enough of.

Berry arrived on the carpet dressed in a strapless Dolce & Gabanna gown, Ridano jewels, and Christian Louboutin shoes, styled by Lindsay Flores. But the star of the show was, undoubtedly, her new face-framing, super-short haircut, comprised of side-swept micro bangs and a bob that lands just below the Oscars presenter’s ear. The new ‘do is courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Sara Seward, who also shared that aforementioned mysterious photo of Berry’s freshly cut strands. In the accompanying caption, she wrote, “We came to play …@halleberry #oscars2021.” And that they did!

Love it or hate it, Berry’s blunt bob is, without a doubt, the most talked-about look of the evening thus far. Look at the way she’s glowing! In 2014, the star told Huffington Post that she’s most confident with short strands. “I am my best self when I have super short hair,” she told the outlet. “Growing up as a black woman, I felt that if I didn’t have long hair, I wasn’t going to be beautiful. I always thought that. Cutting my hair was freeing.”
