Gwyneth Paltrow turned her favorite act of kindness into its own food category when she coined the term “boyfriend breakfasts.” (Leave it to the woman who brought “consciously uncoupling” to the world to come up with another catchy phrase.) If you’re one of her 8 million Instagram followers you’re probably familiar with the line, because every weekend, the Goop founder shares videos of herself making breakfast for her husband of four years, Brad Falchuk.

“They started when we were dating, both divorced parents,” Paltrow wrote on Goop.com. “Sometimes neither of us had our kids on Saturday mornings, so it became a thing, and both of us still relish the energy it brings to our relationship. Even when I’m not eating (I like intermittent fasting some mornings), I really enjoy the act of cooking—and cooking specifically for him.”

For the actress, she says making food is part of her “love language” and calls the boyfriend breakfast a “scared tradition.” In the article, she discussed the anti-feminist ideology behind a woman cooking for a man.

“For me, it’s not anti-feminist to serve; it’s an act of service that’s about seeing the other person and understanding their needs,” the blonde beauty continued. “It brings a particular energy and intimacy to a relationship.”

Paltrow emphasized how cooking for your partner is all about the perspective. While some see it as a chore, the mother-of-two strives to shift the focus of food as something “beautiful” and full of “love.”

While Paltrow has provided her fans with tons of recipes to make for your partner, GRAZIA USA‘s all-time favorite is the boyfriend breakfast hash.

While the occasional food coma from an overflow of carbs is fine by us, we absolutely love how energized this dish leaves us feeling. The rich flavor and all-in-one incorporation of vegetables and protein leaves both our tastebuds and stomach feeling satisfied. Plus, for beginners, this meal is so easy to make!

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Boyfriend Breakfast Hash Recipe:

The star shared the step-by-step recipe on Goop.com:

1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Add a pinch of salt and the potatoes. Boil for about 10 minutes or until they are just fork-tender. Drain and set aside.

2. Heat a wide skillet over medium-high heat. Crumble the sausage into the pan and cook until brown, stirring occasionally. Once browned, remove from the pan and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.

3. Turn the heat down to medium-low and add the onion and bell pepper, along with the red pepper flakes and another generous pinch of salt. Gently sauté for another 5 to 10 minutes, until they’re tender and fragrant. If the pan seems dry, add a little avocado or olive oil.

4. Add the parboiled potatoes and cooked sausage to the onion-and-pepper mix and turn the heat up to medium-high. Cook for about 10 minutes, not stirring too often, so the potatoes can brown.

5. While the hash is finishing cooking, poach 4 eggs.

6. Top the hash with the eggs and sliced scallions or chives and serve.
