Gossip Girl reboot

Filming for the Gossip Girl reboot is currently underway in New York City and, despite ourselves, we can’t help but be excited. It’s been over a decade since the likes of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley filled our screens, and, given the new cast members are sitting pretty on the steps of the Met in behind-the-scenes photos, it looks like not much has changed on the Upper East Side.

Something that does seem to differ, however, is the fashion. Instead of the ultra-preppy outfits we got used to in the original show, the newcomers, consisting of Eli Brown, Savannah Smith, Whitney Peak, Jordan Alexander, Tavi Gevinson and Zión Moreno, among others, have been pictured dressed in edgier, more street style friendly looks.

Perhaps the biggest surprise? Sneakers, which Blair Waldorf wouldn’t have been caught dead in. But, sartorially, much has changed since the original show hit our screens and the rise of the athleisure trend, combined with Generation Z’s unfiltered, no-fuss way of dressing has clearly influenced this new set of Upper East Siders, so much so that Peak was photographed filming in none other than denim overalls.

And it appears that the show’s costume designer, Eric Daman, has tapped into this new generation’s style perfectly – so perfectly, in fact, that Peak, who’s pictured above on set, wears almost the exact same pair of overalls off-duty, too.
