Givenchy Fall Winter 2021

Interestingly, Aaron de Mey has no formal training in makeup artistry. But one look at the incredible eye he created for the Givenchy Fall 2021 runway show in Paris overnight, and it’s clear the New Zealand-born creative has serious talent. In line with the shows punky, graphic, Gen-Z aesthetic, de Mey crafted a larger-than-life cat eye, made up of thick black liner, a sculpted lid and a contrasted white hue on the lower water line. It was a bold look that took cues from the 60s and gave it a dramatic, sculptural Givenchy-style twist.

The rest of the beauty look was understandably subtle: clean skin, minimal contour, and a very slight wash of clear gloss across the lips.

Hair was another standout. Stylist Duffy kept things modern and nuanced, working with color and texture instead of against. Take Meadow Walker – the daughter of late actor Paul Walker who made her runway debut on the occasion – who’s cheek-grazing inky black bob was accessorized with silvery extensions to match the grey-scale collection color palette.

Models like Bella Hadid and Jourdan Dunn even shared closeups of the look on Instagram – not strange considering it’s by far one of the most interesting we’ve seen thus far.
