Gigi Hadid typically celebrates her birthday surrounded by family and friends for a night out in N.Y.C. Last year, her famous friends gathered at Zero Bond for a party that turned into a paparazzi-filled runway show on their way inside. This year, the star rang in her 28th year a little differently, and traveled to Disney World for a magical celebration — and completely got into character while she was at it.
The supermodel transformed herself into Ariel from The Little Mermaid for a makeshift music video where she a lip-synced to Jessie J’s rendition of “Part of Your World.” The clip begins with Hadid laying in a bed surrounded by graphic Disney World tees and holding stuffed animals as she mouths the words to the song. She sports a luminous glam look with a bright red lip, courtesy of makeup pro Patrick Ta.
She shows off her closet of Disney-ready looks and sandals, including a pair of Teva Hurricane XLT2’s, for a day at the park, as she sings about all the “gadgets and gizmos” she has. Then, the video cuts to Hadid standing in front of Cinderella’s Castle in Magic Kingdom in awe over the park. She shows off her all-pink look, which includes a cartoon tee, Bermuda shorts and sandals and Missoma necklace, before breaking character and bursting into laughter.
She captioned the post, “More from my *dream bday weekend* soon…. but @patrickta and I had so much fun (& laughs) making this, to say: Thanks for all the birthday love I’ve felt from here at Disney and all over the world. 💖 My heart is full of gratitude !!!! 🌞🧜♀️🏰💛 @disneyparks @waltdisneyworld #waltdisneyworld.”
Hadid also shared plenty of Instagram Stories throughout her time in Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studio with her slew of friends, which included Queer Eye‘s Antoni Porowski, makeup artist Patrick Ta, Friend of a Friend podcast host Liv Perez and journalist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson among others.
If the role wasn’t already booked by Halle Bailey, we’d say someone needs to sign up Hadid for The Little Mermaid live-action remake (coming out May 26).
Hadid has been delivering plenty of mermaid-core inspo for a while now. She stepped out late last year with long blonde mermaid curls, an early champion of the mermaidcore trend that’s going to be all the rage this summer. Thanks to the upcoming Barbie movie (and its Mermaid Barbie, Dua Lupa), we are predicting a rise in mermaid-inspired looks and seashell jewelry. In fact, Blake Lively and Hailey Bieber have already been decked out in the look.
We guess what we’re saying is, make like Hadid and channel your inner Ariel because mermaids are all the rage right now.
