Hailey Bieber and Dua Lipa (and the Barbie movie) are singlehandedly signaling the beginning of a new trend: Mermaid core.
One day after the British singer revealed her acting debut in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie adaptation would have her starring as a Barbie mermaid, compete with long blue hair and the caption “This Barbie is a mermaid,” Bieber has jumped on Instagram to confirm this Barbie, too, is a mermaid.
As part of promoting a new Rhode release — passionfruit jelly-flavored lip balm — Bieber uploaded a series of photos of herself bronzed and glowing on the beach, one of which half her body is covered in a sandmade mermaid tail, complete with scales.
In the photo, Bieber is wearing an orange bikini by Australian luxury swimwear label, Asta Resort, the same brand Bella Hadid was seen sporting last week (which means it’s sure to be everywhere once summer properly begins).
Bieber accessorized the look with pearl choker necklaces, bulbous orange earrings to match her bikini, black rectangular sunglasses and a gold chain around her waist. “Mood all summer long.🧜♀️🧜♀️,” she captioned the post. “Inside the rhode zine we made for passionfruit jelly 🌼💛💛 Passionfruit jelly launches Thursday 4/6 9am pst. When not at the beach, Bieber has been using her Rhode launches to flex her abs in more ways than one. For the brand’s recent release in Canada, she wore a matching three-piece set from LaQuan Smith’s fall 2023 runway, made up of an asymmetrical miniskirt, with one side of the top hem folded over for a draping effect, a narrow bandeau bra and a boxy overcoat with black lining.
