The Fendi Spring/Summer 2021 coed presentation marked the return of live runway shows in Milan. After emerging from months in lockdown, Italy erupted into a once-familiar setting albeit with strict social distancing in place. For Silvia Venturini Fendi, the new season was a reflection of time spent at home.

It was “Fendi workmanship applied under surreal circumstances,” the designer said during the September show.

Emblazoned on sheer silhouettes, prints are inspired by photographs captured from the designer’s bedroom window. On the eve of Silvia’s move to Fendi Menswear – Kim Jones will take the helm of Fendi Womenswear in a debut presentation on January 27 – the collection campaign has been revealed.

Captured by photographer Nick Knight, the video and accompanying images pay homage to home, time, and tradition. The scene is framed by a small room, billowing white curtains and domestic elements such as a wooden bed and chairs. A digital ‘window’ projected across the wall reveals a glimpse of the outside world, where a blue cloudy sky meets the Maison’s signature headquarters in Rome, Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana.

Worn by the likes of Mariacarla Boscono, Jill Kortleve, Estelle Chen, Henry Kitcher and Chun Soot, Knight uses light and shadow to highlight the workmanship and intricate detail of each garment. In a nod to the house’s timeless leather goods, looks are finished with the PeekabooISeeU – modernly peppered by the FENDI X CHAOS tech accessories – Baguette for Women and Peekaboo Essential for Men along with the new contemporary shapes of the Moonlight satchel bag.

Our attention now falls on Kim Jones while Silvia Venturini Fendi will continue her work for the Maison’s menswear.
