Now, Kylie Jenner has done a great job of building up the hype for her commemorative 24K Gold Collection, with topless pictures dripping in gold promising a collection that is extravagant and celebratory. But some fans of the brand and of Jenner have come out online expressing disappointment in the collection’s approach to its theme.

All of this comes during an attempt by Jenner to re-brand Kylie Cosmetics, which, in her words, is now “clean and vegan,” which is still very vague wording. Some fans are expressing the concern that the collection, specifically the eye shadow palette (which retails at $60), is unoriginal and very much akin to past collections by Kylie Cosmetics. People are especially annoyed with the overuse of the “24” motif on the packaging, which at first glance may seem fitting, but lends itself to a less than creative interpretation of the theme.

This isn’t the best reception to get for Kylie Cosmetics, who, despite signing a multi-million dollar deal with Coty Beauty, saw sales drop over the past year as people went out less and covered their faces with masks. It would’ve been important for Kylie Cosmetics to, after a rebrand, make a big splash, but it seems critical reception isn’t all that it was hoped to be.

After Jenner shared Instagram stories of various products in the collection, fans started a Reddit thread breaking down what they thought. While some praised the collection, a significant number of other fans commented on the lack of creativity in the product.

“I really do not want to walk around with a ‘sexy’ picture of Kylie on my eyeshadow palette,” one fan wrote. “I’m not even trying to hate, but it’s just weird.”

Others were quick to point out that the photoshop that was used on Jenner for the packaging was excessive. Another said that the choice of including a body glow product at the tail-end of summer was an odd choice. But hey, everyone is a critic.

But for $213 for the entire collection, we would argue that the products should be up for criticism, and the quality of Kylie Cosmetics should not be left to fly under the radar.
