For the latest episode of the High Low with EmRata, Emily Ratajkowski called up model Mia Khalifa for a visit. The two dove into the subject of weight loss, and discussed how mental health can affect weight fluctuation. The best-selling author opened up about a recent weight loss, describing the ordeal as “really, really scary.”

Khalifa shared her own struggles with her body, and explained that she often feels at her “heaviest” during a depressive state. “Every day is an uphill battle,” she said. “I fluctuate like 40 pounds a year. It really depends on my schedule, what I’m doing, if I’m depressed…I really give myself a lot of slack and I don’t beat myself up.”

Ratajkowski, on the other hand, said that when she finds herself emotionally low, she has a tendency to lose weight. “I think trauma lives in the body, that’s been my experience,” said Ratajkowski. “I actually go the other way. When I’m really unwell, I lose so much weight. I was down to 100 pounds recently and it was really, really scary.”

“And now,” she added, “I’ve gained weight and for me, it’s a huge game changer, and it’s how I know I’m happy.”

In September, the model, actress and My Body author filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Uncut Gems producer Sebastian Bear-McClard. In conjunction with news of the breakup, rumors of Bear-McClard’s “serial” cheating began to swirl.

The pair tied the knot at a New York City courthouse in February 2018 and share a 1-year-old son Sylvester, whom they welcomed in March 2021.

Shortly after news of their split, Bear-McClard left his own production company Elara Pictures after co-founding the company in 2014 alongside Uncut Gems directors Josh and Benny Safdie, and producer Oscar Boyson.

Ratajowski has now been linked to former Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson. After weeks of romance rumors, the famous duo attended a New York Knicks game at Madison Square Garden on Sunday in their first public outing as a couple.
