Bonjour! Viewers will get to escape to Paris, France, when Emily in Paris returns for season 2 on Netflix this week. At the end of season 1, Emily (played by Lily Collins) finds herself in a pickle — she gets fired briefly for complicating things with fashion designer Pierre Cadault (Jean-Christophe Bouvet) and she tells Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) that she has feelings for him. The two kiss and spend the night together, but the next day she learns that the chef is staying in Paris as he bought the restaurant where he works — but Camille (Camille Razat) wants to chat. Yikes!

So, what can fans expect this time around? For one, the cast spent more time in the City of Lights.

“It definitely felt a bit more familiar this time because I’d been there for about four months last season; obviously it was much quieter this year in the streets,” Collins said. “Also, my husband and our dog were out with us, and so having a dog in a foreign city is an interesting experience because it allows you to feel more like a local in that now we’ve got to find places where our dog can go on walks. It really became more neighborhood-y in a sense.”

Emily will also meet a new love interest this season — Alfie, played by Lucien Laviscount. According to TVLine, the new character is “a sarcastic and charming cynic who refuses to speak French or immerse himself in French culture. He and Emily have an antagonist relationship that evolves into something more as the season progresses.”

There will also be two more characters: Gregory Elliott Dupree (played by Jeremy O. Harris), “an iconic fashion designer and former protégé of Pierre Cadault. With larger-than-life style and personality, Gregory always travels with a collection of gorgeous clothes and gorgeous men. Pierre and Gregory were close, until Gregory’s unexpected and dramatic exit from the atelier left them bitter rivals.”

Arnaud Binard will play Laurent G, “a charming and gregarious owner of a popular Saint Tropez nightclub. A party boy who never grew up, Laurent agrees to promote one of Emily’s brands. But Emily soon learns that his connection to Savoir is more complicated than marketing.”

Viewers will also get to see what happens with Camille after Emily sleeps with Gabriel.

“Each of us got a little bit more of a storyline [so] that you can understand more of the characters individually,” Razat shared. “I think that [viewers] will root for me in the way that I’m more human being. I’m more honest and I’m hurt. People will get empathy for her.”

“The main goal of the show is getting joy and some lightness to it and some fun and also some drama. I think season two is even more interesting than the first one,” she added. “The characters, Emily included, also speak a lot more French. I think people will love it because I think French is a very beautiful language … I’m glad that we speak more French.”

Emily in Paris premieres on Netflix on Wednesday, December 22.
