Netflix’s controversial show Emily in Paris upset some viewers when it came to both its depictions of the city of Paris as well as its fashion. The city, of course, is known for being understated and effortlessly chic—the definition of ‘French-girl style’ that women everywhere try to emulate, usually without success.

On the show, of course, Emily is American, she dresses loud and bright and sticks out like a sore thumb. But despite lead actress Lily Collins also hailing from the US, the 32-year-old has made it clear on her recent press run that she understands the French-girl assignment perfectly.

In a recent Instagram post, Collins posed on a balcony, opting for a sparkly jacket by French label Celine, writing “Since I can’t be in Paris to watch the Eiffel Tower light up, I channelled its sparkles in my jacket.” Collins paired her jacket with a black turtleneck and wide-legged jeans and wore her hair in loose waves with on-trend bangs and a very Parisian red lip.

Last week, Collins wore another perfect outfit, this time courtesy of Givenchy for an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. The outfit was made up of a sheer black turtleneck with a black bra visible underneath, a black blazer and a stain skirt belted to bring the pieces together like a dress. Collins wore black boots and sheer tights with her hair pulled back into a loose bun and another bright red lip.

Collins’ press tour outfits scream French chic, which gives us hope for Emily in Paris season two. Will we see Emily have an Anne Hathaway in Devil Wears Prada makeover? Interestingly, Sex and the City’s original costume designer Patricia Field turned down returning for the show’s reboot, And Just like That, to continue on for Emily in Paris’ second season, too. Things are looking up for Emily.
