On Inauguration Day, there were specific people whose outfits you could expect to be amazing: former First Lady Michelle Obama, who didn’t disappoint in a burgundy coat and jumpsuit by Sergio Hudson, Vice President Kamala Harris, who wore a purple coat and matching dress by Christopher John Rogers, and Dr. Jill Biden, who wore a cerulean dress, tweed coat, and mask by Markarian.

Of course, there were also the performers – Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez – whose outfits were always going to be noteworthy. Gaga opened the proceedings in Schiaparelli with an oversized dove brooch and Lopez later took to the stage in head-to-toe white Chanel. Both women looked incredible.

Given the above were all custom-made designs specifically for the occasion, no one expected the pop stars and politicians to be outshone by a 22-year-old student. But when Harris’ stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff, arrived wearing a perfect sparkling plaid Miu Miu coat, that’s exactly what happened.

Emhoff, a student at New York’s prestigious Parsons School of Design, completed her chic look with black leather gloves, black boots and a headband by Loeffler Randall. Naturally, social media was quickly set ablaze with people fawning over Emhoff’s style, with writer Evan Ross Katz tweeting, “The shoulder embellishments on Ella Emhoff’s coat? I smell a style icon in the making.”

Though it was the Miu Miu coat that caught everyone’s attention, later Emhoff revealed the chic burgundy gown she was wearing underneath her coat, which was designed by Batsheva and features a high-neckline and puffed shoulders.

When she’s not attending presidential inaugurations, Emhoff’s personal style is quite a lot more colorful, eccentric and quirky.

On her Instagram account, which now boasts over 188k followers, she shares images of herself in crochet bikinis, multicolored knits and floral face masks, as well as sharing designs she’s created herself, such as cute crop tops and striped high-waisted pants.

If this is a snippet of what the next four years in the capital is offering style-wise, we are very much on board. Biden/Harris, more Ella, please!
