Dua Lipa for Versace

June 25, 2021: To say Dua Lipa is having a moment right now is be a cruel understatement. The 25-year-old pop star is taking over the music industry and topping music charts globally. And now, she’s making it clear that she’s here to own the fashion world, too, as the star of Versace’s Fall 2021 campaign. As a longtime fan of the label, it feels über-fitting that this marks her first high fashion campaign.

The artist is known for taking style risks (remember her cowgirl look in the “Love Again” music video?), but she switched up her look in a big way for the campaign, courtesy of the one and only Donatella. In a series of photos shot by photographer duo Mert and Marcus, Lipa poses wearing a rendition of the luxury brand’s iconic La Greca motif while donning a standout flaming red wig. I mean, if Donatella says go red, you go red. “Blonde was banal,” said Versace in an interview about the look, adding that “fiery red is a symbol of passion and strength.”

The Grammy-winning artist joins the likes of Madonna and Gigi Hadid as the newest member of Versace’s inner circle. The two first met when Lipa attended a Versus (A diffusion line of the Italian fashion house) runway show back in February 2017. Since then, Versace has been the label of choice for Lipa’s red carpet looks. Her iconic homage to Christina Aguilera’s 2000s Grammys butterfly dress and a custom gown she wore to the 2019 MET Gala are just a few of the most memorable the two have worked together on.

Lipa expressed her joy by sharing the campaign photos with her 68 million Instagram followers. She captioned the last image with “@donatella_versace, you are an icon and a legend and I’m so grateful for your love and support! This day will be one I’ll never forget!!! 💛.”
