You know you made it in the industry when you’re being compared to legendary icons. Our congratulations go out to Dua Lipa, who achieved the honor, after fans on Twitter compared her to the goddess of pop, Cher. One fan posted, “the Cher of our generation” with a side-by-side photo of the two singers in similar sparkling outfits and hairstyles.
The tweet made the rounds and none other than Cher herself saw it. The 76-year-old multi-hyphenated talent star cheekily commented on the tweet, “How many yrs are in a generation 🤔.” Another fan confirmed the tweet’s sentiment by adding “so much truth in one tweet.”

In less than a decade, the 27-year-old British singer has won three Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, two MTV EMAs, and an MTV VMA. Cher has been awarded an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, four Golden Globes, an award from the Cannes Film Festival, and a People’s Choice Award for her music, television, and cinema work spanning over her six decade-long career. So it seems that Lipa is on track to follow in Cher’s footsteps both professionally and sartorially as well.
In the now-deleted tweet, the fan used an image of Dua Lipa from the 2021 Grammy Awards, where she channeled Cher’s 1974 Grammys outfit — signature hair flip and all. The “Physical” singer wore a butterfly motif Versace dress on the carpet, channeling a very similar look Cher wore in 1974 featuring a white skirt and bikini top with a sequined butterfly at the center.
