In case you somehow missed it, over the weekend Dua Lipa not only made her Cannes Film Festival red carpet debut, but she simultaneously confirmed her relationship with her long-rumored new boyfriend, Romain Gavras.
Wearing a black asymmetrical dress by Hedi Slimane for Celine that featured peek-a-boo cutouts slashed across the bodice and a thigh-high leg slit, for once, Lipa’s ‘fit was completely overshadowed by the accessory on her arm: 41-year-old French-born film director, Gavras.
Since being first spotted together at Paris Fashion Week in February, the pair have been seen in the same location on numerous occasions. At the time, an anonymous source told a British tabloid, “they have been enjoying spending time together” and that they “met each other’s close circles over the festive period and have lots in common.”
Friday night, and the premiere of the film The King of Algiers (Omar la Fraise), marked the first time they publicly confirmed their courtship themselves, walking hand-in-hand on the red carpet and posing for photos together.
Naturally, the internet immediately responded (my favorite due to its reference of Lipa’s upcoming acting gig and without any insult meant to Gavras: “this Barbie is everything, he’s just Ken”). The virality of the moment made it hard to miss, so it makes sense it would be seen by Lipa’s ex-boyfriend, Anwar Hadid.
On Sunday, Hadid, who broke up with Lipa in December 2021 after two years of dating, posted an Instagram Story of himself seemingly responding to the singer’s new relationship, wearing a gray hoodie with the hood up and the words, “Trying to not to find and kill him.”
Hadid added a smiley face further down the image, later posting another photo, this time a mirror selfie, with the words “I can’t breath” [sic]. Then, on a post promoting his music, the 23-year-old added a crying emoji.
Though we can’t be sure of the context, your ex walking the red carpet cuddling another man and then those images going viral and being quite literally impossible to escape would send anyone a little loco.
Here’s hoping it inspires new music.
