After what feels like years (because it has been) Coachella is back, and with the festival comes its own distinct drove of fashion and beauty looks. While the collective aesthetic has historically tended towards eclectic bohemian — lots of braids, glitter and OTT accessories — it seems post-pandemic, celebrity attendees preferred festival beauty looks that were a little more refined.
While the looks were arguably less intense and overt than in recent years, there was still plenty of high-octane glamour. But perhaps the global domination of Euphoria has taught us to embrace color and shimmer in a more relaxed way, that feels more casual than costume — we saw micro plaits over waterfall braids, or only a subdued touch of glitter through the inner corners (rather than across the face).
But hey, we’re only at weekend one, so who knows what’s next! In the meantime, let’s take a closer look at some of GRAZIA‘s favorite beauty looks from Coachella 2022 so far.
Megan Thee Stallion
It might’ve been Megan Thee Stallion’s first-ever Coachella experience, but she stayed true to the festival’s traditional beauty aesthetic of pastel hair and colorful makeup — albeit with her own glamorous twist. The star rocked a classic extended ’90s smokey eye with shimmer accents at the inner corners, switching up her hair between a pink and blue ponytail and long dark curls.
Billie Eilish went for a very Y2K-esque look, characterized by a wispy, lash-skimming fringe and messy spiked bun. Smudged black eyeliner and a muted lip completed the decidedly nostalgic look.
Hailey Bieber’s beauty look prompted dozens of recreations on TikTok, as users fawned over her fun yet sophisticated take on festival chic — haphazard micro plaits were added to loose waves, while her skin was left natural but glowing. Groomed arches and a glossy nude lip proved the perfect supporting act for the model’s eye makeup, which featured a bronzed lid and soft winged liner, with a playful slick of blue shadow along the lower lash line.
Euphoria star Storm Reid flexed the HBO show’s infamous “done but undone” cosmetic prowess, with a fresh, barely-there base, intricate braids, multicolor nails and just a smattering of shimmer through the inner corners of the eyes.
Kendall Jenner’s neat pigtail plaits were strikingly reminiscent of Britney Spears’ iconic …Baby One More Time hairstyle. The model pulled her newly-auburn locks back and kept her makeup simple, with a bronzed complexion and subtle cat-eye liner.
Would it even be Coachella without Alessandra Ambrosio? The festival favorite played with vibrant color in her locks this year, opting for cotton candy pink streaks through her long honeyed strands.
