Chrissy Teigen and John Legend are dealing with the worst thing that could happen to a parent: the loss of a child. After Teigen was hospitalised due to complications with her third pregnancy, she later shared a heartbreaking post to Instagram saying that the couple had lost the baby, a boy they had named Jack.
Following the post, thousands of people shared their support for the couple, including celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Channing Tatum and Hailey Baldwin. “We’re always here for you and love you guys so much,” Kardashian wrote in the comments of Teigen’s Instagram post. Gabrielle Union added, “We love you guys so much and we will be here for whatever yall need. Always.” Bieber wrote, “I’m so so sorry,” “Thinking of you and John, praying for you guys and sending you so much love during this time.”
But others took it upon themselves to take a stab at the grieving pair for sharing their news publicly, despite Teigen being famous for being unfiltered and honest with her fans, the fact that if she didn’t share her news, the media would, and, more importantly: how common miscarriage and stillbirths are for women worldwide.
Now, people are coming to Teigen’s defense, including the late Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda Williams, who wrote on Twitter, “However someone chooses to grieve, publicly or privately, is VALID. Grief will fill a room if you let it, and spill out of every window and door. Let people grieve however they choose, not however you believe they should, and hope the world returns the favor for you one day.”

Another person wrote, “Women are trained not to talk about living in a female reproductive body. About periods, and cramps, and sex, and miscarriages, and birth control and abortion. And the feelings that go with it. God bless @chrissyteigen for not hiding her pain and demanding we all talk about it.”
Teigen choosing to share her and her family’s grief publicly has opened up the conversation for countless women. Personal stories of grief are being shared online in digital features and on social media, helping thousands of people around the world who have suffered a pregnancy loss to feel less alone. Teigen’s post was selfless. It was raw, it was real and it was essential in moving a much-needed conversation forwards.
