Last October, Chrissy Teigen revealed she had suffered a miscarriage with her son, named Jack. Six months later the model and television personality has reflected on the aftermath of the traumatic experience.

“There was one moment that really struck me, and that was being at the grocery store and somebody just quietly laying flowers in my cart,” she explained to TODAY. “And then I realized that there’s so many women that don’t get this kind of attention because you just don’t know that it happened to them.”

The 35-year-old has been praised for sharing her experience so publicly as the topic is often stigmatized. According to the Huffington Post, it is estimated that 15 to 20 percent of all pregnancies in the United States end in miscarriage. Teigen penned an essay following her own miscarriage, and echoed her comments to the broadcast outlet.

“[Women are] living through this privately and quietly, and it just was a big moment for me where I realized that I could be this person that people could see and look up to as somebody that had a platform, where their stories were going to be recognized,” she said. “For me, that was a very defining moment.”

During an interview with PEOPLE in early April, Teigen revealed she would never be able to carry a child again.

“Coming to terms with not being able to carry again is still really difficult for me because I feel so healthy. I’m like, why?”

“But then I think about it as my uterus is just not cooperating with me – and it’s not a failure,” she said.

Teigen has never failed to keep it raw and real. In December 2020, she published an image of her post-pregnancy body to 35.4 million followers on Instagram. She explained it constantly reminded her of what could have been.

“This is me and my body, just yesterday,” she captioned the post. “Even though I’m no longer pregnant, every glance in the mirror reminds me of what could have been. And I have no idea why I still have this bump, honestly. It’s frustrating.”

We hope Teigen continues to heal.
