Chanel is always the crème de la crème of fashion month – the cherry on top of a sweet, saturated few weeks where sartorial delights are served up in excess. This year, as we know, saw such shows go digital but online or off, the decadence was still there.

This year, Chanel’s show was all about movie stars and bygone eras; glamour and the cultural significance of film. Streamed live from the Grand Palais in Paris, the collection itself was a saccharine mix of candy pink and tiny, glittering accessories – pint-sized purses and chunky costume jewelry.

The beauty look, on the other hand, was classic with a cool-girl twist. Skin was buffed to perfection: fresh, glossy and with an imperceptible level of coverage. Cheeks were ever so lightly flushed, while the lips were all but bare. Perhaps a little liner or whisper-light lashings of pinky-toned lipstick?

It was the eyes that had it, washed with a soft, matte black shadow. It was swept across the lid in a perfect half-circle, settling neatly into the crease for a smoky fade that looked sultry but soft. Mascara was there, albeit minimal, letting the inky eye take center stage.

Hair was side-swept as if it was right off a ’50s red carpet. Some shorter styles were left loose, while longer looks were pulled into a soft ponytail. Some were adorned with tiny Chanel-stamped headbands, whereas others were swathed in a finely-knit mesh.

Overall, it was a daring look for the French fashion house, especially one with the conservative Virginne Viard at the helm. But, it was beautiful. Even on the internet…
