The rumours are true—Cardi B confirms her split from her husband of six years, Offset, with a wry Instagram Live. Casually live-streaming to thousands of devoted fans, the 31-year-old Bronx native revealed that she and the Migos alumni broke up a short time ago.
The rapper addressed claims of infidelity from Offset, touching on reports that he had cheated on her with a 23-year-old hip-hop artist named Chrisean Rock. “I don’t care to find out because I’ve been single for a minute now,” Cardi claimed before adding, “I just don’t know how to tell the world”.
“I want to start 2024 fresh, open,” she claimed. “I’m curious for a new life, a new beginning. I’m excited.” Cardi B also mentioned that she had been dropping subtle “clues” through her social media posts hinting at her newfound singledom. Offset hadn’t appeared in any of Cardi B’s posts since they announced their single “Freaky” in October.
Prior to that, it appeared that their relationship was steady after a series of rumoured affairs, with Offset showering Cardi B with lavish gifts for her recent birthday. The presents included a suite of three Hermès Birkin bags worth half a million dollars.
It’s also worth noting that Offset wasn’t present at Cardi B’s scene-stealing modelling debut at Balenciaga’s recent Fall 2024 show in Los Angeles.
Since their break up, Cardi quickly moved through the five stages of mourning their relationship by already embracing the revenge dressing stage of a split. In the hours that followed her confirmation, the star stepped out for a shopping spree with a vintage-inspired “shingle” bob.
Cardi might be the latest style savant to adopt 2023’s biggest hairstyle, however, this take is a 1920s-inspired spin with a sharp fringe and tapered V-shape back. Her locks might be cut off, but it’s clear this hairstyle is signalling Offset is cut out of her life, for now.
