Certain Y2K trends are quite polarizing: low-rise jeans, skinny scarves, and dresses over pants immediately come to mind. Another big one are capri pants, yup, you read that right. Love ’em or hate ’em, they are having a moment thanks to the never-ending Y2K style resurgence. But we say, take away the stigma surrounding these pants and give them a chance.

When done right, capri pants can be so fab. Last year I found a great pair of early 2000s Miss Sixty capris, which were also ultra low-rise (sorry). I leaned into the early-aughts origin of my pants and paired them with mules and a body chain. I like my wardrobe to be fairly season-less, but since capris are often associated with spring or summer, that doesn’t work for me. So, I put my pants to the fall/winter test and they passed with flying colors! The cropped length is a great way to show off a pair of knee-high boots. For my fall-appropriate look, I threw on a white button-down, a chic vest and suede boots. This look was the polar opposite of my summertime outfit. Instead of playing into the Y2K vibe of the pant I styled them in a way that felt fresh and current.

I hope that at this point, I’ve changed your mind. But if you want a little more inspiration, see below for some more outfits to win you over.

Sporty Chic

If you’re anything like me and detest athleisure, this is a great option! In my mind, this is just as easy as throwing on a pair of leggings. These cute capris have a fun little tie detail and balance out the oversized sweater. A downside to the style is their ability to cut off your legs and make them look shorter. I like that Andrea Ricci styled hers with a pair of heeled mules which helps elongate the leg.

Totally ’80s

Bella Hadid is giving all of the ’80s Flashdance realness and I am loving it. I’m obsessed with this brand Cult-Form and their Spandex capris come in so many bright colors. Hadid paired her’s with a tube top which creates a jumpsuit type of look. If you’re tired of just throwing on a little dress in the summer months, why not try this fresh outfit formula?

Fall-Ready

More inspiration on how to take your capris into the fall/winter months. I love how Estelle Chemouny kept her base minimal and cozy, because the capris are a great length to show off the bold red boots. Layering the coat on top really solidified this as a solid fall look. But since this printed pair has a white base, they would also look amazing with a cropped little tank and some metallic mules come summer time.

Full on Y2K

Of course, I had to add one more Y2K-inspired look. Camelia Farhoodi in her vintage Dior tank and the platform flip-flops look straight out of the year 2005 in the best way possible. I wanted to be that girl then, and I want to be that girl now.
