After fans noticed a ring on Camila Cabello’s ring finger in a TikTok she posted earlier this month, rumors started flying about the potential engagement between her and long-time boyfriend Shawn Mendes. On Thursday, when Cabello made an appearance on The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon probed her about these rumors and whether she and Mendes had any plans to tie the knot.
But don’t get too excited just yet, as Cabello quickly shut down the rumor mill. She bantered with Fallon “oh, is this news?” and quickly reassured everyone with a “No” when asked if Mendes had proposed to her. Seeing as the two have dated since July 2019, it wouldn’t be too much of a surprise. But it looks like the couple is planning to wait a little longer.
In fact, Cabello says the ring mishap was strictly due to the fact that she just forgot which hand was significant in regards to engagements.
“I swear to god, I don’t know what hand the engagement ring goes on, so sometimes I’ll just like put it on my ring finger,” Cabello said. “I mean, I’d actually like you to enlighten me—which hand is the engagement hand? Because I don’t know. My parents are married, and they both lost their ring. Literally, my mom couldn’t tell me, either. She could save me from this, but she doesn’t because she doesn’t know, either!”
She instead joked about the idea of having a back tattoo that says “Shawn Mendes” and him with one saying “señorita.”
But as is common in this day and age, if Cabello and Mendes were to actually become engaged, we’re sure it wouldn’t be too long before it became public knowledge. Both are very active on social media, and it would be an occasion to celebrate!
