Britney Spears has called out the media on Instagram for their continued exploitation and insistence on drawing attention to her past.

It comes after the most recent documentary dissecting Spears’ life was announced on the BBC. “The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship” is the latest title in a string of documentaries that have sought to profit off the pop star’s challenging career. The media has rushed to seize upon the lucrative focus that has been created by The New York Times’ “Framing Britney Spears” documentary.

After posting a joyful video compilation of her dancing in a studio, Spears wrote, “So many documentaries about me this year with other people’s takes on my life … what can I say … I’m deeply flattered !!!!”

But it didn’t take long for the artist to get to the crux of the issue: “These documentaries are so hypocritical … they criticize the media and then do the same thing ?????”

Spears references the underlying message in these documentaries; that the media was instrumental in causing her mental health struggles which took place on a global stage.

However, as is the order of the day on her Instagram account – a positive and cheerful celebration of life – she wrote, “I’m thrilled to remind you all that although I’ve had some pretty tough times in my life … I’ve had waaaayyyy more amazing times in my life … I think the world is more interested in the negative !!!!”

The ‘Toxic” singer then goes on to call attention to the role of the media and more pertinently, their responsibility in 2021. “…isn’t this supposed to be a business and society about THE FUTURE ???? Why highlight the most negative and traumatizing times in my life from forever ago ???? I mean DAMN.”

In response to X-Factor makeup artist Billy B’s claim that he and Britney are in close, daily, and secret contact following The New York Times‘ documentary, she says “I don’t actually talk to Billy B AT ALL so I’m honestly very confused !!!”

In her ongoing conservatorship battle, Britney Spears is set to speak directly to the court on June 23.
