April 26, 2021: Blake Lively loves New York City so much that she dedicated her latest manicure to her favorite sites and bites of the Big Apple. To bring her vision to life, the 33-year-old enlisted the help of celebrity nail artist Mei Kawajiri, whose clients also include Gigi Hadid and Ariana Grande, among others. The social media-famous artist shared photos and videos of the Gossip Girl alum’s new nails on Saturday, April 24, and the hand-painted details are next-level, to say the very least. Per the nail pro, it took somewhere between two and a half and three hours to do the star’s gel extensions and intricately decorate each nail.
As seen in the photos and videos, each of Lively’s nails features a different design inspired by NYC. There’s everything from the obvious (the Statue of Liberty, a Yankees baseball cap, and a taxi cab) to more specific references more in tune with New York residents or media buffs, like the sign for Pearl Oyster Bar. The mom of three shared an up-close look at her nails on her Instagram Story, giving the famed West Village restaurant a special shoutout. “@Pearloysterbarnyc, I’m more committed to your lobster roll than any relationship in my life,” she wrote.
Obviously, that’s quite a weighted statement, considering the actress is married to Ryan Reynolds and the couple of nearly ten years share three children. I deemed it so powerful, in fact, that I reached out to Pearl Oyster Bar owner Rebecca Charles to see if she wanted to issue a comment (spoiler alert: she sure did). “Typically, I don’t talk about the celebrities that come to Pearl,” the founder tells GRAZIA USA exclusively. “But now that the cat’s out of the bag, Blake has been coming for years.”
Charles, who opened the city’s iconic seafood restaurant in 1997, is flattered to see her establishment’s sign on Lively’s fingernails. “Seeing the Pearl logo tattooed on her nail with iconic New York City treasures was thrilling! I can only think of one other mention in the 25 years we’ve been open that was as exciting: when Tony Soprano came out of his coma and said, ‘Pearl Oyster Bar…the lobster roll’ [Editor’s Note: See Season 6, Episode 4 of The Sopranos for reference].”
She continues, “As far as being ‘more committed to our lobster roll than any relationship in her life?’ All I can say is, imagine Ryan Reynolds and the lobster roll side by side…nobody could love lobster that much.”
